Discover Nature Preschool: Where Your Child Can Thrive
At New Day School, our nature preschool program opens children's hearts and minds to the world, nurturing their innate talents and curiosity. Located in the heart of the community, we welcome learners between the ages of 2.5 and 5.
Our nonprofit organization offers preschool programs with flexible schedules, including two-, three-, and five-day options, running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This allows children ample time to explore, learn, and have fun throughout the day.
The Benefits of Nature-Based Preschool Education
Nature preschools like New Day School offer a return to common sense education, focusing on holistic development. Our curriculum, rooted in nature-based learning and hands-on activities, enhances academic performance, physical health, and emotional well-being.
Research supports the benefits of nature preschools, highlighting improvements in academic achievement, physical activity, and stress reduction. By learning in a natural environment, children gain a safe and enriching experience that fosters their growth.
Why Choose a New Day School?
Selecting the right nature preschool is a critical decision. New Day School offers a unique, nurturing educational setting on a campus certified as the first Net Zero Energy preschool in Oregon and recognized as a natural habitat by Portland’s Audubon Society. Here’s why:
Nature as a Medium: Our play-based programs engage children in outdoor activities, immersing them in nature.
Holistic Development: Beyond academics, we incorporate yoga and meditation to help children manage stress and prepare for learning.
Creativity and Expression: Artistic activities using various materials help children discover and develop their unique talents and skills.
A Day in the Life at New Day School
At New Day School, children learn through peer interactions and community building. Older students mentor younger ones, fostering leadership and empathy. Our spacious facilities, including multiple classrooms, Yoga Hall, a large playground with green lawns, a tree house, play structures, and an organic growing garden, provide ample opportunities for exploration and engagement.
Children participate in outdoor play and hands-on activities, sparking their curiosity and knowledge about the world.
Intellectual and Ethical Growth
Our curriculum aims to uncover the hidden potential in every child, encouraging creativity, self-organization, and a love for learning. Ethical values are integral, promoting kindness, empathy, integrity, and accountability towards the community. We instill these values to nurture responsible and capable contributors to society.
The Role of Our Teachers
At New Day School, our teachers are co-learners and guides, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. They engage with children in outdoor activities, nurturing curiosity, analysis, and problem-solving skills. Our teachers' enthusiasm for learning inspires children to explore and value their educational experiences.
We look forward to welcoming your children to New Day School, where they can thrive and explore the wonders of nature.
